Making a boat light may make the hull distort more thus losing some of the advantage. But is is possible to build light without distortion. The answer is YES.
The Oz Racer led to the Oz Goose. There was discussion about whether the OzRacer would plane and just how light it would be possible to build. Extrapolating from the Moth Scows in Australia I made a guess.
This is a reprint of an article from the OzGoose website with a preamble by me and some reorganisation to make it more useful to owners of other boats. As you may now we are one of the main developers of the knowledgebase for lug rigs, setup, rigging, control and performance. See the list of […]
All the videos for the Oz Goose and other similar boats OzRacer, Ocean Explorer, PD Goose. Families sailing, speed videos, capsize, racing. USA, Australia
Kits for Storer Designed Canoes and the Texas Duck which is an Ozracer derived kit.
Full list of storerboat plans for sail, rowing, paddling, fishing and overnight stays. Plans for most boats are very comprehensive and the boats look just right despite simple construction methods.
Getting rid of a familiar crease in many lugsails.
How to reef a Balance Lugsail. A neat trick of using shock cord (bungee) for the intermediate ties makes it much faster to tie in a reef as well as remove the reef after. it also minimises the risk of damaging the sail if something major breaks elsewhere.
After a week or so of bad sailing weather, Daniel in Uruguay got out on the water in Piriapolis harbour to try out his new sail from ReallySimpleSails.com in the Philippines. The idea is to halve the price of sails for my plans so that it is even more economical to build a storerboat. This can save $300 plus
2013 – Once again an OzRacer wins the PDRacer World titles. That is four times in the last five years. An OzRacer does need to be modified to fit the PDRacer rules or as standard is an excellent boat for first time sailors. It sails REALLY well which aids learning. And doesn’t need to cost any extra money. Plans $20
The OzRacer RV sailboat is meant to be a very simple boat that can be homebuilt. Most build it to get on the water quickly, but Mark Milam has done an amazing job of overseeing a project combining his work with that of a boatbuilder friend.Wonderful woods, some great detail design and the very best fitting of a windsurfer rig to a dinghy that I have ever seen.
Csaba Mezai, storerboatplan’s agent in Hungary translated my plans into Magyar (Hungarian). He also runs by far the biggest website in that language – www.hajoepitok.hu which includes a very active forum. It is seven or 8 minutes long looking at the Eureka, discussing the Quick Canoe and OzRacer simple sailboat and discussing the plans are at about […]
This OzRacer mk2 has a number of changes from the original design, but Bob has pulled it off. The biggest risk is that the windsurfer mast might break because it is not meant to be supported in this way – it is meant to be held up higher by the arms of the sailor. Additionally […]
A correction to the OzRacer RV plans. There was a small discrepancy in the corners of the boat which can be filled. Or if the panels are not cut yet they can be corrected so no filling is required. Apologies to all affected – I do my best but sometimes something sneaks through. Thanks Ryan for the building feedback.
Gyula, who built the first European OzRacer in 2008 wants to modify it for an outboard motor. This modification will work for most OzRacers, Oz Goose, PDGoose and PDRacers.
The OzRacer Mk3 has been rebranded as the OzRacer RV.Detailed plan – a boatbuilding course in a book for $20 each.So now racing sailors can use the OzRacer Mk2 and cruising sailors can use the OzRacer RV plan. The RV is no slouch though – it won the World titles in 2010.
Photos and slideshow from the Goolwa Wooden Boatshow 2011.Over 250 boats – mostly in the water. Wooden hydroplanes, “restricted 21s”, riverboats, putt putt launches, classic sailing boats, kayaks, canoes and more.I had the quick canoe, the eureka canoe and the OzRacer on the stand that was shared with Duck Flat Wooden Boats and Boatcraft Pacific. Good time was had by all.
The dot in the bay above is Perttu’s Microcruiser sailboat on a three day trip on the extensive Finnish waterways. The boat is tiny – 8ft long and is based on my successful OzRacer design (formerly OZ PDRacer)It is a brilliant concept and sails well upwind and down on inland waters.
