AlexN, who is building an Oz Racer and I drove up to Toronto at Lake Macquarie for the Classic Boatfest 2011. I think I will go again in 2012 and try to have a boat to sail around. Shows on the water are the nicest type and this one has good access for small sailing boats and canoes. We met up with Bruce (Woodeneye on the storerboats forum) who had is “for sale” Goat Island Skiff.
Csaba is my agent in Hungary. He has translated several of my plans to Hungarian. This is some of his promotional material in Hungarian.
Michael Storer will be attending the 2011 Woodenboat Show in Mystic Seaport. He will be running a workshop for families building the Quick Canoe – choice of either the electric or the paddling versions along with Duckworks and J.O. Woodworking.
Photos and slideshow from the Goolwa Wooden Boatshow 2011. Over 250 boats – mostly in the water. Wooden hydroplanes, “restricted 21s”, riverboats, putt putt launches, classic sailing boats, kayaks, canoes and more. I had the quick canoe, the eureka canoe and the OzRacer on the stand that was shared with Duck Flat Wooden Boats and Boatcraft Pacific. Good time was had by all.
The Goolwa Wooden Boat show is on the coming weekend. Storer Boat Plans and Duckflat are having a joint stand as per normal. The show itself is free this year with 250 boats entered in events or on display.
Cliff and PJ live in Warm Queensland and Wintry Tasmania. However they both like to go the the yearly (June) wooden boat festival in tropical Far North Queensland. This year they decided to build one of my Quick Canoes. They started on Saturday and finished including putting the canoe on the car roof by the following thursday. They are experienced woodworkers so added some very nice details.
This is a list of the latest posts on the Storerboats Forum. It has information about building, discussions about design, photos of buildings and launchings and much more. A main interest is tweaking the best possible performance out of traditional looking boats.
A little bit of writing how form in boat design seldom follows function in terms of what “looks good”. It was prompted by a discussion about whether the PDR is good looking or not. My Podcasts on design also cover this idea to a greater depth – they are in the menu at the top of each page.
I was sitting in Chuck’s car as we were driving to the Lake Conroe Messabout. I knew that he had some plans for the Texas 200 event – to extend the concept and starting a new small boat festival on the Texas coast in a couple of years. This is a podcast of that interview.

Sailing Day For OzRacers (PDRacers welcome) in Adelaide and the Port Vincent/Stansbury Boat Festival
[Translate] Now we haven’t had a huge amount of luck with our PDRacer days in South Australia. While I did make a new PDRacer speed record, the conditions were mostly too strong at the Goolwa wooden boat show. However there are a couple of opportunities to see (and possibly sail) an OZ PDR if you […]
[Translate] This clip demonstrates the lovely manners of the boat, (to replace our aging “doing donuts” movie). Note that Michael does a gybe or two while standing, this is as much a reflection of the stability of the boat as it is of his cat-like agility! If ever there were any doubt about the ability […]

[Translate] The world speed record for PDRacers is currently 6.5mph. During the recent South Australian Wooden Boat Festival (pic of three of our five PDRS on the beach right) there was so much wind that many events were cancelled, but Michael Storer had a crack at the speed record for PDRacers. Actually we briefly thought […]
[Translate] I will be on the stand with the Duck Flat Wooden Boats Staff at the SA Wooden Boat Show over three days 10/11/12 March at Goolwa on the Murray River. It is a great boat show and you can find the details from the article immediately below. I will also be attempting to win […]
