Photos from Goolwa Wooden Boat Show 2011 – looking forward to 2013!

Photos and slideshow from the Goolwa Wooden Boatshow 2011. Over 250 boats – mostly in the water. Wooden hydroplanes, “restricted 21s”, riverboats, putt putt launches, classic sailing boats, kayaks, canoes and more. I had the quick canoe, the eureka canoe and the OzRacer on the stand that was shared with Duck Flat Wooden Boats and Boatcraft Pacific. Good time was had by all.

Sailboats and canoe hire on the Murray Lakes – an hour from Adelaide.

My friends Rob and Jane Hylton run sailing boat and canoe hire on some of my favourite sailing waters – the lower Murray Lakes – just an hour south of Adelaide. The boat hire is quite cheap but linked with you overnight staying in the small town of Clayton Bay – on the edge of the Murray River. There are a number of different options. My favourite is a tent or an on site caravan on the river’s edge camping area. But there are classier (?) options as well. Low season is quite cheap and the days down there can be very beautiful in winter with a good weather report. They also offer sailing lessons which can include a picnic and/or a tour of the fascinating Murray wetlands.

New Peak Speed Record in PD Racer class held by OzRacer.

During the recent South Australian Wooden Boat Festival (pic of three of our five PDRS on the beach right) there was so much wind that many events were cancelled, but Michael Storer had a crack at the speed record for PDRacers. Actually we briefly thought he […]

Tasmanian Wooden Boat Show and the Goolwa Wooden Boat Show

Seeing that I am getting the two boats ready for the festival season here is some info about the two major ones. The Australian Wooden Boat Festival – Hobart, Tasmania The Tasmanian Wooden Boat show is definitely bigger but the Goolwa Wooden Boat Festival is much more hands on – as the grassy bit the […]

118th PD Racer is OZ

No Story about the DuckFlat Spring School is complete without a bit of a spiel about the first of the Mk2 OZ PDRacers being built. It was only one among the 12 different projects – but, hey, it is MY Design!!! (My other designs can be seen by clicking the links in the left column.) […]

Back from the Duck Flat Summer School

I was asked by the people at Duck Flat Wooden Boats whether I would be interested in teaching at their Spring School. It is their first one for a few years and has the purpose of “getting people excited about boatbuilding”. I must admit that was pretty well how it went. 12 different projects and […]
