What is revolutionary about a day sightseeing? The boat is driven easily at reasonable speed with a small electric trolling motor – some are well under 200 dollars. It doesn’t require a trailer. It comes from three sheets of exterior plywood. Costs are down on every front. And the family is happy! Snohomish Estuary
The above photo was taken on the third day of our Canoeing trip on the Loire River in France. The two black canoes didn’t even exist a week ago. When I wrote the original article on Disposable Canoeing I had no idea at all what it would lead to me and a bunch of adventurers, wine and cheese connoisseurs. Most of us didn’t even know each other! The picture above is the result of this adventurism, but what happened to make it happen? What technology was involved to make the boats faster to build than most stitch and glue boats and what weather conditions did we have to overcome to make it all happen.
A nice little reverie from Clinton who built a Quick Canoe this year. After a hectic day in the city he paddled out into the middle of the lake to watch the eclipse in his $300 canoe.
Robert Hoffman has been busy using his BETH sailing canoe that he built over a cold Polish winter. There are now videos. I have also linked to all my videos on youtube – so you can see many storerboats sailing.
There is a new website for the Loire trip in France 2011.It has been a bit traumatic putting it together, but it seems to be working now.
I built the Quick Canoe in a day and a half. This is way slower than some of my customers. It is the first time I have been disappointed building a complete boat this quick. The risk of high expectations! But a day and a half with the problems I had is pretty good.
Is it revolutionary? The Quick Canoe uses Duct tape to hold the plywood together while the glue or glass tape sets up. This can save a huge amount of time. The Quick Canoe is designed to take maximum advantage from the method.
Slideshow and pictures resources to show some of the methods for building the Eureka Stitch and Glue Plywood Canoe.
This page compares the two plywood canoes in my range. Both have detailed plans and are simple to build. The page is to explain the differences and to help potential builders see if one of the boats suits their needs.Lots of links to pictures, build articles and even videos. The cla
Another Quick Canoe built in less than a week. This time by Clinton. He shows how quick and cheap the boat can be. Probably our friends from the Americas can build for about half this price for the same materials quality.
Cliff and PJ live in Warm Queensland and Wintry Tasmania. However they both like to go the the yearly (June) wooden boat festival in tropical Far North Queensland. This year they decided to build one of my Quick Canoes. They started on Saturday and finished including putting the canoe on the car roof by the following thursday. They are experienced woodworkers so added some very nice details.
Perttu took his recently built “Quick Canoe” on a trip down a river in Finland. We don’t have rivers like this in Australia! To see them is quite exciting. The Quick Canoe is designed to be very cheap and easy to build, but still work OK.
Perttu is building his Quick Canoe in almost impossible conditions. The middle of the Finnish Winter. But the boat is going together well. He is building it very cheaply out of ply and polyester resin.
I don’t have a car so how can I go canoe touring? Its something I fell in love with in the USA on Lake Powell. This is an idea for a simple, cheap, almost throwaway (or give away) canoe. I can get the materials shipped to somewhere on a river, build the boat over a couple of days then go for a paddle. At the end I can give the boat away or store it for the next part of the trip.
[Translate] I have just added another page to my site. A couple of keen canoists lightweighted my already light Eureka 155 Canoe. The end result was that this 15ft 6″ boat came in at 34lbs (15.5kg). Note the neat and very lightweight seat made of a washing line. It is important when drilling the holes […]
