Five days and 200 miles up the Texas Coast. John and David Goodman in their Goat Island Skiff
Goat Island Skiff Launching 3 – John’s CNC yawl version in Texas
John in Texas built his Goat Island Skiff from a kit made by Clinton Chase. They are experimenting with a yawl version of the Goat.
They had a launch and a capsize by the dock.
The boat is a great lime green. I used to have a lime green NS14 dinghy that I enjoyed so much some of the design input went into the goat.Goat Island Skiff Launching 2 – Woodeneye in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
Bruce in New South Wales, Australia has launched his Goat Island Skiff plywood sailing dinghy at Port Stephens.
They had a nice day sailing around but capsized the boat by accident when someone tripped up. Ooops.
I am still not sure who is to blame!
We are still waiting for launch day pics to be retrieved from the waterlogged camera.Goat Launching 1 – BobWes in Sacramento

Drop in Outriggers – photo and comments from the Philippines
Finally after many years of selling the plan I have a photo of a boat with the outriggers from the drop-in outrigger plan.
Every part of the outrigger is very light. The first one we built had each component under 10lbs.
It can make a canoe or kayak into a killer sailing boat. Or can convert a canoe, kayak or suitable dinghy into a stable fishing or diving platform for paddle or outboard.New plywood canoe plan builds in 4.5 hours.
The plywood “disposable” canoe (see here) has been renamed the more salubrious “Quick Canoe”. I quite liked the name of “Disposable Canoe” but I agreed with the critique that it hinted at something that was poor quality rather than simple and Easy.
It has been designed to be as easy to build as possible while keeping some of the qualities of a good paddling canoe – in particular the ability to track.MSD Rowboat in Brisbane. Built by Tom
Tom has built his MSD Rowboat in Brisbane.
I met up with him recently and we drove down to the coast towing the rowboat to the river at Nudgee. A bit of wind and a lot of current because of all the rain.
Tom has trimmed down the skeg to get the boat to balance nicely in all directions. Before the modification the bow used to blow around – now it behaves nicely.
I took quite a few pictures.First baby of the New Year – Handy Punt.
Fiona Harbison and friends have just launched their new Handy Punt for fishing and family outings.
Fiona is the sister of Helen (hope I have that right) who built a Nutshell pram in a number of the Duck Flat spring or autumn boatbuilding schools.
It is called Farnark, which will strike a chord with Australians and New Zealanders through the work of John Clarke. There is a picture of the boat and a clip of John Clarke reprising his farnarkling spiel.“Disposable” Canoeing – building a canoe in a few hours.
I don’t have a car so how can I go canoe touring? Its something I fell in love with in the USA on Lake Powell.
This is an idea for a simple, cheap, almost throwaway (or give away) canoe. I can get the materials shipped to somewhere on a river, build the boat over a couple of days then go for a paddle.
At the end I can give the boat away or store it for the next part of the trip.Stretched version of the OZ PDR – the 12ft PDGoose
The PDRacer international forum started discussing a longer version of the humble PDRacer – and I had some drawings on hand already for a 12ft version because of Bob Alston. He actually thought up the name, which I quite like. We really do recommend the OZ PDRacer for most people and you do need to read more →New Photos on Handy Punt page – a basic utility/fishing boat
A basic update to the Handy Punt page. A basic utility or fishing punt with good stability, very simple construction and large airtank buoyancy. Stability is so great because of the simple rectangular cross section that it is a safe and easy boat to stand up in. The flat bottom is well braced against pounding read more →A New Plan – A canal and river boat for Venice
Earlier this year I was contacted by Pierangelo from Italy who liked the look and simple construction of my 23ft Dayboat/Launch Designbut wanted something a bit more “live aboard”. He contributed a sketch of what he wanted and it looked quite sensible (right). When I say “sensible” I mean that the boat has a chance read more →A really light plywood Eureka Canoe – 34lbs/15.5kg
I have just added another page to my site. A couple of keen canoists lightweighted my already light Eureka 155 Canoe. The end result was that this 15ft 6″ boat came in at 34lbs (15.5kg). Note the neat and very lightweight seat made of a washing line. It is important when drilling the holes to read more →
