Hi Henri,

Windsurf masts are not stiff enough for anything but canoes. Much, much too flexible for the Goat Island Skiff.

The advantage of carbon masts is that they reduce the centre of gravity of the rig. Which means the boat has to heel more before the rig starts making the boat heel more.

I would suggest replacing the wooden yard &lt;a href=&quot;https://www.storerboatplans.com/plan/gis/windsurf-mast-lug-yard-goat-island-skiff/&quot;&gt;with a carefully chosen part of the windsurfer mast as in this article.&lt;/a&gt;

I am currently building my GIS in my garage during the restrictions due to the virus. I made many contact to get a carbon mast of even diameter from bottom to top but it cost  a hell of a lot. 
I Found  on the net a second hand surf board carbon mast.  The diameter  at the bottom is 485mm is it enough. What is the diameter of your mast.
