I suggest rereading the article about the designing of the SUP. Why the decisions were made.

Particlular in relationship to wavemaking drag.

If messing with the volume distribution the boat will become crappy.

MIK

Good boat design is always about volume distribution.

I have been researching and looking all over the internet for plans for a couple of kayaks I want to build and nothing really fit the bill. This hull looks and sounds like exactly the type of hull I need. Was thinking of leaving the hull as is but creating kind of a kayak deck up front for storage and to stay dry that would taper down maybe half to 2/3 towards the stern. Do you think there would be any issues with modifying the frames to support something like this? Looking for a very stable kayak for lakes that we could stand in while fishing or just to stretch and move around.

Hi,

Adding glass over a small object like a canoe kayak or SUP adds a lot of weight.

Only have to pick one up without glass and with glass to feel a big difference. More if you have to carry it much.

Some say glass doesn't add much weight but I've spent enough time carrying boats with and without glass to know the difference between 15 and 16.5 kg.

This board is not intended for surf so will not be going fast enough to do much damage.

So I recommend glass tape along the chine and outside of keel only.

The way all kayaks and canoes were once done before everyone went glass crazy somewhere around 1985!

Is this board must be fiberglassed, or could be just painted?

Thanks so much for the report!

So your other board is longer? Do you think the speed is comparable?

Look forward to future reports if you are able.

Thankyou and best wishes

Ahh, i made my first trip today. It was a pleasure. The ta‘al is fast and tracks well. I guess Faster than my first sup, the umpqua, which i built a few weeks ago. I decided for ta‘al mainly to Save weight and length due to transport with my bike. Now easy going! Love to test it in the Eastern Sea next week, also with the kids (stood on already today but forgot the life jackets...). Well done, Michael. Pictures coming soon and more reports if you like. Many greetings from Germany. Martin
