Peter McKenzie and his sons from Queensland Sunshine Coast built a standard Eureka paddling canoe.

Weight was the standard 44lbs. Peter's email gives some nice tips.

They are very happy campers.

Video - Ian Henehan worked out this 12ft Goose Version and launched it into 20 knot winds. You can check the video to see that this is probably correct. It certainly is, despite the poor camera angle which changes a few times the boat is fairly smoking along

Cheap Electric Power and a day sightseeing!

The boat is driven easily at reasonable speed with a small electric trolling motor - some are well under 200 dollars. It doesn't require a trailer. It comes from three sheets of exterior plywood. Costs are down on every front.

Dete Hasse and his family built a Goat Island Skiff in Geelong, Victoria a while ago. He has just written to me about his experiences trying to sail on Port Phillip Bay and more happily on the recently refilled (the drought is over!) Lake Eppalock.

Also he makes some good comments about reefing and how it changes an overpowered boat into a much more rriendly beast in stronger winds.
