I am a recently-retired Aussie currently working as a volunteer for a Christian aid organization in southern Africa.
One of the objectives we have is to build ‘capacity’ into local communities. This often means giving them skills in industries like building and associated trades. As part of this we run a carpentry shop employing 3 guys who are mainly focussed at the moment on furniture manufacture.
As a keen sailor I suggested to them that we should build a boat this year and take it sailing on one of the local dams (we are a long way from the coast….)
When I shared with them in more detail what my idea involved they got very excited and are keen to commence ASAP.
I was keen on the GIS from the start as I had remembered seeing it in AABB magazine a couple of years or so ago and after reading your story and seeing the beautiful finish you have achieved on your boat I have made up my mind what I want to build!
I will show my guys these photos, and any more that you could possibly send me, as a challenge and an encouragement.
