Howdy,

Yes, there are thinner plywoods available in Europe. If you use Facebook drop in on the Storer Boat Plans group and ask the question directly there. Several of our other boat designs use 3 and 4mm plywood, so I am sure there will be some useful feedback on plywood suppliers/sources.

With the Birch - yes, the aircraft ply is very nice indeed but can be only 1220 x 1220 sheets.

If you don't use facebook please email me storerm@storerboatplans.com

Hello,
great boat!
Can you name a source for the needed plywood in Germany?
I'm trying hard but I don't see any 2 or 3mm Oukumé / Gabun on the big G...
I also wonder if birch plane plywood 2.5mm (this has 5 plies!) could also work?

Hi Rob,

in theory Canoes, Kayaks and SUPs should not work at all. At least if the crew's weight was firmly located as the Centre of Gravity would be too high for stability.

However, we all bend. The boat starts falling over and we don't (usually) sit there rigid and go over with it ... we lean the other way. This happens continuously as we paddle. We actively move our centre of gravity to keep the boat stable.

So I am not at all sure what is the best solution for you?

I had a good long look for solutions on the internet. Some sort of sit on top kayak.

Can you tell me why you don't want a canoe with a large cockpit?

Hello--I am v interested in your SUP . Have built many small boats in my time, some my design', now aged 87 .
Q --for my age would it be practical to make a Sit Down P by adding a light seat structure say 12inch high
possiblly rotating? with a double paddle , the CG therefore much lower ?more power paddling & practical??
I have a swivel seat in a dinghy adapted from a bent ply stool Or the seat could be taller say 3 ft with a bit less support provided .
Could you tell me the beam of your SUP -looks less than typical inflatable modeels at 32 inches?
Thanking you ,in anticipation

Thanks for That Robert.

It should be working now. If it only appears as a photo you can click it to go to the collection of photos on the website.
